Hey Claire - same! Would love to hear what you think about it if you do end up listening to some of it.

You did such an epic job of this, really enjoyed it.

Feel the energy/charge/burden of underutilised creativity. It’s not a good place to be.

As someone who has a very commercial background, the idea of creating art for myself is so energising but hard to keep on that path without the haunting of the ICP ghost 😂

I struggle to take the energy I get from being immersed in art and turn it into something ‘just because’ so this was a solid reminder to keep plodding on.

Interesting commentary on the prep you did for this, would like to see more of that too.

Hey Claire - damn, thanks so much for listening.

Yes for sure, me too, I have a commerce heavy background as well.. if it don’t make money it don’t make sense kinda mindset..

I think both ICP and “create for yourself” can coexist. I think the distinction that is often overlooked, is btw the creative act itself and the distribution of the finished creation… they are two completely separate things, but, now that creators can DIY publish anything from anywhere, those roles have been smooshed together.

So just a note to self really but, create for yourself in the creation part and then, once it’s complete, once you feel it’s a the best possible gift to your highest self.. switch your mindset to distribution mode and figure out who the ICP for that creation would be..

Issues occur when this process happens in reverse.

It’s hard to avoid, I’m still trying my best to do one and then they other.

… thanks for the compliment on the commentary.. I’ll try to add more personal stories on the next episode. Thanks for the note.

Wow, thanks. Epic advice to keep the creation and distribution separate. I’ve berated myself so many times for making something and not ‘doing something with it.’

On the flip side, have also written empty stuff for conversion purposes and that sucks even more.

Thanks for such a great reminder, going to add more of this ‘service to self’ vibe into my 2025.

Congrats on the launch. I really enjoyed this. Super thorough and easy to listen to. I related to a lot of this. I loved the Buddhist philosophy take. I like to think about another yogic/ Buddhist philosophy that It’s about not being attached to the fruits of labor, but enjoying and being present to the process of the labor, and I teach that often during my class. My creative outlet is primarily teaching yoga, and I truly see it as a gift to my highest self. The audience (my students) only know what has come before, so most of the time when I teach I feel so energized because I get to create something new they’ve never experienced. It’s only when I let my ego get in the way that the creative process becomes heavy and almost like a burden. I also related to how creativity makes us more at ease. After I teach a flow I love I feel liberated. I am a better person after I teach. Lastly, the massive amounts of persistence feels spot on. I’ve been teaching for almost a decade and it’s the one creative outlet that I’ve stuck with and put massive amounts of persistence that doesn’t make sense to some people but makes all the sense to me. I’m always excited to see where this path will take me creatively.
